iTunes is a software owner for reading and managing digital media library distributed free by Apple . It is officially available on Mac OS X 1 , Windows , and can run on GNU Linux emulation 2 .
The first version of iTunes was released in 2001 and operated on the basis of SoundJam MP software, which Apple had then bought the rights to Casady & Greene Company, has since disappeared.
iTunes was part of the suite of Apple iLife ’06 until version. Since it is integrated with Mac OS X or downloaded from the website of Apple . iTunes software requires QuickTime to operate, it is also installed with iTunes, uninstalling QuickTime causes an inability to launch iTunes.
The iTunes Store (formerly iTunes Music Store or iTMS) is the online music store from Apple , available from iTunes, which provides music, TV shows, movies, video clips, audio books, podcasts auto insurance quotes , short films Pixar , games and applications for iPod .
iTunes handles transfers of music, photos and videos on various multimedia devices from Apple iPod , iPhone , iPad and Apple TV . It is also a streaming software, which lets you listen to radio stations worldwide streamed over the Internet. It integrates the digital hub strategy defined by Steve Jobs . iTunes creates the playlist and “Smart Playlists” (since version 3). iTunes also allows you to listen to podcast (since version 4.9) and video playback ( MPEG4 , H.264 , since version 4.6);

Supported formats

In Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, there is wow gold a only way to get a read bit-perfect : it is to use an Apple Airport Express terminal, because the driver Airplay which overrides the layer Windows software and QuickTime which drives its outputs to Itunes. CD to iTunes: Gracenote CDDB
Gracenote is the hidden feature of iTunes. Since the server freedb , Gracenote allows when importing a CD into iTunes to add information such as a wallet, ID / meta tag (artist, album, year, genre) and the lyrics. For this last point Gracenote has agreements with leading music publishers where paying status.
iPod to iTunes
iTunes can retrieve audio files purchased on a commercial site and transfer them to a player. Lists of online music stores that iTunes can connect to is very small because there is that iTunes Music Store . The site is open on the European continent since 2004. This service is opposed to other similar services Starzik , OD2 , E-compil (Universal martial arts denver Music France) and VirginMega .
Format AAC protected purchased with iTunes 7 can be converted directly to AIFF for use in iMovie. The majority of service users are unable to use iTunes files ACC due to the presence of DRM and causing problems for interoperabilities [ref. required] .
iPod to hard drive
iTunes allows you to copy MP3′s and playlists from your hard drive to his iPod , but not the other way around. This can however be carried out by many other programs, including for example:

Fairplay DRM & AAC
The legal owner of DRM FairPlay is Apple. iPod supports audio formats MP3 and AAC (used by iTunes Music Store), while most of the services of legal downloads, other than iTunes Music Store, offering their songs in WMA format from Microsoft, not supported by iPod. Virginmega asked the Apple licensing Fairplay DRM support for their online store is also compatible with Apple music players. With no response from Apple, Virginmega grabbed the Competition Council 28 June 2004 for abusing its dominant position and has played the card of “zero DRM.” The latter was dismissed eight by the mere fact that interoperability exists because DRM can be bypassed after transfer to CD (iso image virtual). This solution opens the door to legal software as DRM Dumpster on a Mac using an optical rewritable (RW). FairTunes as alternatives to iTunes, you can export the AAC file formats Wave, AIFF, QuickTime, AVI, or MuLaw still in its System 7.
During 2006, the competition authorities in Norway, Sweden and Denmark are challenging the conditions of use of iTunes Music Store. In Britain, the producers are asking Apple to open its DRM system. Then rests the problem of interoperability in France following the law DADVSI leading to an amendment of Deputies notifying Apple to provide its competitors with the information necessary for the implementation of this interoperability. April 2, 2007, Apple announced that the entire digital music catalog of EMI Music is available for purchase without DRM FairPlay at all sites iTunes Store.
DRM on iTunes Store restrict the use of personal music players songs purchased from Apple. These DRM would be a disincentive to purchase online as shown in the second place taken by the United States with eMusic’s DRM-free MP3 tracks. This has probably pushed Apple has claimed in the year 2007 an iTunes Store files “better without DRM” more expensive ( 1.29 euros ) that without DRM ( 1 euro ). These files without DRM are electronic cigarettes confined to certain artists who have signed to EMI , Universal Music refused to renew its annual contract with iTunes. These files without DRM contain personal information: name and email address of the purchaser named Apple ID and added by itunes. Privatunes downloaded from the site Numerama Matoumba and removes the Apple ID that could be compared to an ID tag mp3 unchangeable.
In early 2009, Apple drops DRM by offering the service “iTunes plus” which allows to download tracks from the iTunes Store better quality and without DRM. In doing so, Apple has abandoned its policy of fixed price of guest office chairs $ 0.99 Bankruptcy per song to now offer $ 0.69 , $ 0.99 and $ 1.29 .
iPod connected to iTunes
iTunes comes with the iPod as well, activation of players from Apple and use of the Apple Store (on the Apple Store, see related article) require the installation and use of the iTunes software. Similarly install custom ringtones for the iPhone requires using iTunes.
Streaming File
A file managed by the iTunes client can be shared in a network using a proprietary protocol name Digital Audio Access Protocol (DAAP). DAAP relies on Hello and zeroconf . DAAP specifications are not public and were sold to a company name Roku . This company sells WiFi devices (audio but no video data) as the Soundbridge 9 for rendering audio and control of competing technologies: Bonjour (iTunes), 100 day loans UPnP (Rhapsody DRM, musicmatch, windows media connect).

DAAP has thus allows one file to be shared on five devices per 24 hours belonging to the same subnet without human intervention on a router DHCP (address association between MAC address and IP ). This sharing is sharing as a stream without the possibility of copy / file storage.

iTunes supports other data that the media files such as song lyrics, duplicate detection, adding cover your songs, creating html files.
Genius
Genius is a feature appeared with iTunes 8 11 , it automatically creates playlists from songs similar to the selected track in the library. An iTunes account virility ex is necessary because the library information must first be submitted (anonymously) to Apple’s database. An algorithm then determines, from libraries of other users, what songs can be played together. Play lists so generated contain 25, 50, 75 or 100 tracks and can be refreshed or saved. The Genius sidebar for its part offers similar tracks not found in the library but purchasable from the iTunes Store. Current versions of the iPod classic, nano and touch also have the Genius feature.

Reading material
Reading itself can be made on storage device by magnetic tape or memory.
